Mr and Mrs W. H. Robiesoh, King Edward Street, have returned from a visit to Whakatane. ilrs A. R. Bunny, who has been speeding a holiday in tho north, returned\o Masterton to-day. Mrs S. Boltop, who has been in a private hospital in has returned to ‘ ‘ Oete, ’ ’ PaY^ptua. Constable D. Ellis, of Masterton, left for Christchurch yesterday where his father is seriously ill. He is being relieved by Constable G. Callaghan, of Wellington. A Wellington telegram states that Mr L. Glover, President of the New Zealand Watersiders/ Federation, and vice-president of the Alliance of Labour, has been selected as the nominee of the Alliance of Labour for the position of Labour delegate to the International Labour Conference at Geneva. At the Municipal Conference at Christchurch yesterday afternoon the election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr C. O. Morse; vicepresidents, the Mayors of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin; additional executive committee, the Mayors of Timaru, Palmerston North, Ashburton, Hawera, New Brighton, Rotorua and the chairmen of the Papatoetoe and Havelock North Town , Boards and Mr J. A. C. Allum, representing transport boards. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa High School Old Arris’ Hockey Club officers for the year were elected as follow: —Patrol, Mr H. B. Tomlinson; president, Mr G. W. Morice; vice-presidents, Mrs J. M. James, Mrs Pike, Messrs E. C. Coddington, and E. R. Rogers; hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss H. Brown; delegate to Wairarapa Hockey Association, Misses M. Norris and J. Buckley; club captain, Mrs R. Barnes; coach, Mr R. Foster.
The following degrees were conferred by the University of New Zealand yesterday: —Doctor of Literature, Basil Hillyer Howard, Otago; Master of Arts, first class in English, James Munro Bertram, Auckland; Bachelor of Arts, Gwenda Josephine Norman Jones, Victoria; Bachelor of Commerce, Raymond Frank Galyer, Victoria; Thomas Richard Smith, Canterbury; Bachelor of Engineering, William Mowbray Eastgate Mirams, elec, civil, Canterbury; Bachelor 1 of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, David Athol Arnott, Douglas William Guthrie, William Hawksworth, Marion Kerr Steven, Otago. A bridegrooin and bride about to leave for New Zealand are Mr and Mrs Algernon Malcolm Borthwick, who were married at St. ' Clement Danes, Strand, on 20th February, states a London correspondent under date 23rd February. Lady Norah Jellicoe, who. is to bo married on 30th March, was one of the six bridesmaids. The bridegroom is the elder son of the Hon. Algernon and Mrs Borthwick, of Woodcote House, Woodcote, Oxfordshire. Mrs A. Borthwick was, before her marriage, Miss Gorrie, of Auckland. The bride, Miss Edith Wylde Addison, is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. S. Addison, of Wethersfield Place, Braintree, Essex. Tho Bishop of Chelmsford officiated, assisted by Canon LanrtjP, rector of Toppesfield, Great Yeldham, Essex. The bride wore a close-fitting gown of cream and gold brocade with a slightly trained skirt and a second train falling from tho shoulders. Her veil of creamtinted tulle was held in place by a narrow coronet of orange-blossom and! she carried an ivory bound prayer-book. Mr Hugh Fisher was best man. Among those present were:—The Hon.
