BACK TO PENNY POST
JUBILEE GIFT TO NATION. LONDON, Friday. The “Morning Post” publishes -the surprising announcement that the penny post will be restored before the Silver Jubilee on 6th May. It recalls that the penny rate for four ounces was introduced during Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. The “Morning Post,” in a leader, congrateulates Sir Kingsley Wood, Post-master-General, on the decision to restore the penny post as a jubilee gift to the nation. It adds that the loss
of revenue lias been estimated at £6,500,000, but will be offset by a gain in business unmeasurable in pourfls, shillings and pence.
