Mrs W. Barton, of Featherston, who left to-day on a visit to England, was farewelled earlier this week ‘by the Featherston Girl Guides Committee and others, who joined in wishing her God speed, good health and a pleasant trip. The engagement is announced of Miss Dorothy McLeod, daughter of the Hon. A. D. McLeod and Mrs McLeod, “Mangapari,” Martinborough, to Mr Frank Hockley, son of Mr and Mrs F. Hockley, Mt. Albert, Auckland. Mr L. J. Taylor, Masterton, has received news of the death of his father, Mr F. W. Taylor, at the age of 79. Mr Taylor, Senr., died at Newton Abbot, Devonshire, of which place he had been a resiMnt for the past fifty years. ▼

A Sydney cable states that the new Governor of New South Wales (Sir Alexander llore-Ruthven) arrived in Sydney this morning aboard the Nestor. Seven Royal Air Force aeroplanes and a formation of aeroplanes from the New South Wales Aero Club dived over the vessel at the heads in a Royal salute. After the official welcome at Farm Cove and a procession through the city streets, Sir Alexander llore-Ruthven was sworn in.

The death occurred at the Pahiatna Public Hospital on Tuesday night of Mrs Jessie Ellen Ellmers, of Kohinui, wife of Mr C. J. Ellmers, a of that district, at the age of 29 Born in Otago, the de'ceased was the second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr D. Gunn, of Mangatainoka. With her parents she went to Saunders Road, Alfredton, thirteen years ago and a year or two later removed to Mangatainoka where she was always a keen worker for the Church of England. The late Mrs Ellmers is survived by a widower and three young children. She is also survived by her mother, two sisters and two brothers, her sisters being Mrs G. Withers (Stratford), Mrs R. Rankin (Mangatainoka) and her brothers, Messrs Gordon and Douglas Gunn, Mangatainoka. The deceased took an interest in Women’s Institute matters and was a member of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union.

The wedding was celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church, Dannevirke, on Wednesday of Barbara Bisdee, only daughter of Mr and Mrs H. B. Stuckey, Dannevirke, to lan Arnold (John), second son of Dr. and Mrs E. C. Barnett, Palmerston North. The Rev. G. B. Stephenson was the officiating minister. The bride was attired in a gown of magntilia satin cut on simple lines, the cowlinecklino being offset by flared frills the elbow on sleeves. Thejfeody of the gown Twas long and slbmfitting, the back being lined with buttons and dropping to form a long, graceful train, with two flared frills continuing around the hem. Her embroidered tulle veil was caught to the head with a circlet of orange blossom. Her bouquet was of cream begonias and sweet sultan, relieved by pink begonias. The bridesmaids were Miss Joan Barnett (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Margaret Pinckney, Dannevirke. Their picture frocks were of floral georgette in autumn tones and fell to a straight train, and they carried flame carnations and pink gladioli, with gold ribbon. Each wore a bandeau of polyanthus flame roses. The best man was Mr Peter Williams, Napier. Mr Arthur Barnett, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman.
