DAIRY BOARD

CANDIDATES AT PAHIATUA. PAHIATTJA, Wednesday. The utmost good fellowship seems to exist amongst candidates for the Middle Ward seat on the Dairy Board, six of whom addressed a meeting this morning arranged by the Bush Dairy Factories’ Asscoiation. A ballot resulted in the speakers stating their views in the following order: —Messrs R. Sutton, W. C. G. Green, C. Dernier, IST. Campbell, A. Linton, B. Roberts. The candidates, undeterred by the rather sparse attendance, were each allowed twenty minutes for an address and ten foy answering questions. Some of the remarks were tinged with good matured raillery against opponents. Two members of the present board expressed divergent views. Mr Green criticised the mutilated reports of the board’s business appearing in the “Exporter” and maintained that the subsidy to the “Exporter” should be abolished and the meetings of the board thrown open to all sections of the Press to use their own discretion, ensuring fairer publicity' for each member.

Mr Dormer defended the “Exporter,” contending that it was futile to suggest throwing open meetings to the on account of there being too much business of a confidential nature. He admitted that he had never been on a board where there was so much suspicion amongst members. There was an undercurrent of feeling always below the surface, the reason being a lack of unity between one section of the industry and the other. —(-P.A.)
