CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST. TIMARU, Wednesday. The New Zealand brass bands championship contest was continued at Timaru. The weather broke shortly after the opening. Results: — B flat cornet solo: E. Pheloung (Oamaru), 84 points, 1; R. Colvin (St. •Kilda), 83 points, 2; R. Simpson (Woolst9n), 82 points, 3. Tenor trombone solo: L. Carruthers (Greymouth), 96 points, 1; G. Langridge (Timaru), 90 points, 2; R. Hall (Kaikorai) and J. Glennie (Wellington Boys’ Institute), 89 points, equal, 3. Owing to unfavourable weather the first A grade band test, which was to have been held in the open air, took place in the Theatre Royal, which, was crowded. The points will be announced to-morrow night. —(P.A.)
