MASTERTON SHOW

PEOPLE’S DAY

To-day is “People’s Day’’., at tlie Masterton Show, and with, the line weather and the large eonequrse of people, the scene at the showgrounds at Solway is a brilliant one. Visitors are present from all parts of the North Island, and the keenest interest is being taken in the exhibits at the show, especially in the stock, by those who follow of the farmer. For the townspec/fP? there are many attractions that hold'their interest continuously. Many hundreds of people are to-day making the show their annual holiday and picnic, where they meet old friends and pass the time pleasantly in conversation and in watching the ring events. Solway is noted for the beauty of its surroundfhga; the interesting events to be seen in the show ring, and the perfection of its management. In Mr W. F. McLaren the Association has a president who is a worthy head of such an important fanners’ institution as the Masterton A. and P. Association. He is a worker in every sense of the word, and knows the duties relating to his office thoroughly from A to Z, With dignity and ability he has throughout the show brought credit to the Association, and the farming community honour him for the manner in which he has carried out his onerous duties. There have been many excellent presidents of the Masterton A. and P. Association — men worthy to be the head of the highest farming organisations in the Dominion—and Mr McLaren takes his stand among the most popular and capable /pf them. The jjjjiociation is fortunate also in the stewards and officials which it possesses. There are no drones among them—there would not need to be, or otherwise the success of the Show could not bo brought about. Long hours of arduous labour are required in connection with arranging the stock that is placed before the .-judges, but with men who have the welfare of the Association at heart, it is a labour of love. It is a long and a strong pull all together in the interests of the A. and P. Association, and all that the latter stands for. Messrs R. H. Williams (secretary) and F. Dunn (assistant secretary) were again the right men in the right place, and the smooth running of the clerical part of . the show is due to their outstanding ability. Mr W. H. Booth, judge of the fruit and vegetable classes, stated that, considering the extremely dry season, both fruit and vegetables, though not as numerous as in . other years, were of good quality and well grown. In one or two sections an extra class might be added to divide different i sections of the same order. ■: Mr W. Kemp, of Masterton, who has been a very successful ej|Pbitor in vegetables at the MastertoMsfshow and 'at the (horticultural shows held in Masterton * many years, secured a large numbewof prizes at the Masterton Show yesterday, including the muchprized * miniature, cup for the most points.
