WEST COAST DROUGHT
BROKEN AT LAST NEARLY 10 INCHES OF RAIN. HOKITIKA, This Day. The long drought was broken earlyon Tuesday morning, and to 9 o’clock this morning 9.67 inches of rain had fallen. The Hokitika River is in record flood. A bridge over the Hokitika River at Kanieri had a 50ft. span- washed away, just after a bus had crossed. A bridge at Stafford has been washed out.
Many reports of damage are coming to hand.
The rain lias now ceased,
