GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS A. WELCH.

Family celebrations Avill take place at the residence of Air and Airs A. Welch at 63 Essex Street this evening, to celebrate their golden Avedding. On 18th February, 1885, at Aliki Aliki, Alt. Bruce, Air Welch married a daughter of the late Air and Airs BroAAyi Hunt, of Aliki Aliki, and grand-daugh-ter of the late Air and Mrs Thomas Chamberlain, of Upper Plain. The officiating minister was the Rev. L. AI/ Isitt, now a member of the Legislative Council, from Avhom a congratulatory letter Avas received to-day. After the ceremony the bride and bridegroom rode on horseback, the bride carrying a canary, to tho home of the bridegroom’s mother, the late Airs Henry Welch, of “WilloAV Park,” Avhere a reception Avas held. In those days the Opaki Plains Avere all bush and scrub.

Air and Airs Welch have farmed and lived all their lives in the Wairarapa, and for 44 years were resident at “WilloAV Park” estate.

There are six sons and thirteen grandchildren to help Air and Mrs Welch celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. For many years Air and Airs Welch have lived in retirement in Essex Street, Air Welch being a keen boAvler during these years of his retirement. In his younger days Air Welch Avas a noted Wairarapa representative footballer and a prominent cricketer. Atore than one of Air Welch’s sons have obtained representative honours on the football field. Air A. Welch Avas formerly a member of the famous Welch Family team of footballers and cricketers, Avhich secured many important victories on the field in Ararious parts of the Wellington province over a long period of years.
