CARNIVAL QUEEN

FARMERS’ CANDIDATE. Tho Kaituna Hall was taxed to full capacity on Saturday night to accommodate the local and visiting dancers who patronised the effort made by the Women’s Institute under the leadership of Mrs P. R. Welch on behalf of Miss Nancy Morrison, the Farmers’ Queen candidate. Upon her arrival Miss Morrison was escorted to the platform and introduced by Mr and Mrs Welch to the large assembly and presented with a bouquet of flowers.. At the conclusion of the entertainment competition prizes were presented to Messrs J. Falloon and D. Carmen, by Miss Morrison, who also made a happy speech of appreciation to her host and hostess and was accorded musical honours.

On Wednesday, the Whareama Amateur Theatrical Society intends repeating its recent local performance in the Homewood Hall. The play is entitled “Have You Anything to Declare?” It will be followed by a dance. The proceeds will go towards the support of Miss Morrison, who will be present at the function. Te Wharau settlers are invited to participate in this entertaining function. BUSINESS CANDIDATE. On account of the outstanding success of the recent dance on behalf of the business candidate, Miss Mollie Collier, the Business Committee has decided to hold a similar function next Saturday. The committee is retaining all the popular features, with several attractions new to Masterton. On this occasion patrons will be provided with carnival favours free of charge. The ping pong matches to be played in the Drill Hall to-morrow promise to be a big success, and entries are already to hand for the inter-house sev-en-a-side Rugby tournament next Saturday. The Municipal Band will head the procession of players to Memorial Park. Y.M.C.A. QUEEN. The big event in the Y.M.C.A. Committee’s effort this week is the Masquerade Ball to be held in the Municipal Hall on Wednesday night. Very complete arrangements have been made to ensure that jmtrons of this function will thoroughly enjoy themselves and several features that should, prove most popular 'with the public will be introduced. Five hundred masks have been purchased and will be issued free at the door but dancers, if they wish, may bring their own. . It has been decided to include a crooning specialty at one of the Y.M.C.A. Committee’s functions in tho near future. The Galaxy Hall, Carterton, was packed to the doors on Saturday night when a gala night dance was held for the Business candidate, Miss Mollie Collier, in tho Queen Carnival. Hancers were present from all parts of the Wairarapa and the dance was an outstanding success. Music was provided by Minifie’s Orchestra and. the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr T. McCracken. The committee expresses its thanks to Mr Youngquest for the use of the hall. CROWNING DATE. DEFINITELY FIXED, FOR 17th OCT. The erdwning date has been definitely fixed for 17th October. The combined choir is to nfeet at Y.M.C.A. to-morrow evening at. 7.30 o’clock to practice for the choral items in connection with the crowning ceremony.
