BRIDGE PARTY
QUEEN CARNIVAL FUNCTION.
MRS W. A. BURLING ENTERTAINS
The beautiful home,, of Mrs W. A. Burling, “Kandahar,” Lansdowne, was the scene on Saturday evening o a delightful progressive bridge party m aid of the Y.M.C.A. carnival queen. About 100 guests enjoyed the hospitality of an excellent hostess, the large drawing-room being used for the card tables. , After cards the guests were served with a dainty bouffet supper, the hostess being assisted by her daughters, Mrs A. Madden and Miss E. Burling. Miss Edith Ralph, the Y.M.C.A. Queen, thanked the hostess and' her daughters for extending such a generous measure of hospitality to a large number of guests in order to assist a worthy cause. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung heartily. Mr J. Richards, on behalf of Mrs Burling and her daughters, replied and said that the hostess was only too pleased to help the eauso of the Y.M.C.A. - The bridge prize-winners were: Ladies —Mrs Pointon; men—Mr A. R. Clarkson. Consolation prizes went to Miss A. Devenport and Mr E. Welch. Mr Seymour Gilding was the winner of a cake competition which owed much of its success to Mrs Madden and Messrs W. Nicol'and J. Richards, Misses E. Ralph and Y. Judd sang a charming duet and a most enjoyable function was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Among those present were Mr and Mrs C. Burling, Mr and Mrs R. R.
