MOTOR TAXATION
REDUCTION TO BE PRESSED FOR. PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday. The opinion that motorists, had good prospects of having reinstated to the Main Highways Fund the whole, or a large part, of the £500,000 appropriated from motor taxation for purposes of the Consolidated Fund, was expressed by the president, Mr W. O ’Callaghan (Hawera), at a meeting of the executive of the North Island Motor Union. The executive discussed the possibility of obtaining a reduction in taxation in addition to the restoration of the half-million for roading purposes, and carried a resolution that the secretary be instructed to press to the limit for a reduction in taxation. The president reminded members that there would be an election next year, and therefore there should be some prospect of taxation reduction after 31st March next.
