SELF-HELP CLUB.
(To the Editor). Sir, —While perusing your valuable paper I noticed the annual report of the local Self-Help Club, in which it claims to have handled the sum of £478 5s 7d. To my mind this organisation has been doing a fair share of charitable acts in this town of ours during the present depression and I sincerely hope it will continue to do so while the need is so great. Now, Sir, as the Club is. a semicharitable institute would it not be wiser and more business-like for those responsible for the betterment of the club to publish a receipt and expenditure statement and balance sheet and allow the public who may be willing to subscribe to a good cause to learn the position of the club financially. No person is willing to donate to any organisation in the dark. Certainly let the light in as far as the local public are concerned, who may be willing to help to liquidate liabilities should the club be in the unfortunate, position to have any. Thanking you for your space.—l tm, etc., DAYLIGHT.
