Dunlteld just beat the speedy Burando in the Pines Hurdle Race. The New Zealand, Appledore, had every chance. The New Zealand-bred Sir John scored a brilliant win in the Sires’ Produce Stakes. He has now started five times for three wins and two seconds. He is trained by the ex-New Zealander, George Price, who, with His rider, M. McCarten, won the race previously with Kuvera. There was a great finish in the Essendon Stakes, four horses passing the post together. Heroic Prince, who was a bad last at the turn, won in the last stride and greatly pleased his Australian Cup admirers. His rider, McCarten, scored his second win of the afternoon. Deputy Ruler ran badly and was last home.

Foursome, on the outside rail, was always prominent and had a brilliant win in the Newmarket Handicap. Dame Moab (second) and Jacko (third) ran good races, and Waltzing Lily and Closing Time were close to the placed horses. Golden Wings was troublesome at the start and lost a little ground. He joined the leaders at the three furlongs, but tired at the finish. Dole ran a , good race, but Ruling Light was never ' dangerous. The winner, who raced ' originally in South Australia, is trained ( by the former cross-country jockey, J. : Sing. His owner-breeder, Mr A. E. Michacl, resides in South Australia. The _ rider, Baxter, comes from New Zea- ‘ land. The first prize was £2OOO. There was a thrilling finish in the St. Leger Stakes. Hall Mark, who was last earlv, tackled Limarcli in the straight and gained a slight advantage, but Limarcli came again to draw level with Hall Mark in the last stride. Trivento was outclassed. Limarcli has New Zealand associations in his breeding, owner and trainer. Many considered that Pike took things too confidently on Hall Mark. Tlieex-New Zealander, King Colossus. led at the distance in the Brunswick Handicap, but was unable to hold off the fast-finishing Gippslaiul, who enhanced his cup prospects. King Colossus was second and Wliitsome finished strongly in third place. Dick Devon ran an improving race. Greenhorn is amiss and is an unlikely runner in the cup. RANkWICK RESULTS. SYDNEY, Saturday.
