GIRLS’ CONTESTS. The annual Masterton secondary and primary school girls’ relay and diving contests were held at the Wairarapa High School swimming baths yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of parents and friends, and a high standard of performance was set by the young contestants. The secondary relay race of 133 1-3 yards provided an excellent contest, St. Matthew’s taking honours from Solway College, with High School in third place. The time was 90 2-ssec., a very creditable performance. St. Matthew’s also won the primary relay, with Fernridge in second place. The time was 2.9 1-5. The diving, which was judged by Mrs Wilbur Davies, was particularly in--1 cresting. The secondary contest resulted: —St. Matthew’s, 52 points, 1; High School, 4(5 points, 2; Technical School, 43 points, 3. Mary Evans, the young St. Matthew’s school swimmer, gave splendid displays. The primary contest resulted:—St. Matthew’s, 27 points, 1; Fernridge, 17 points, 2. The gathering was most enjoyable, and the girls of the various schools took a keen and lively interest in the feats of their representatives. The applause, however, was entirely impartial, and every competitor received her meed of cheers.
