SECRET OF THE PYRAMID.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Recently I attended a lecture on the Great Pyramid, from the British Israel point of view. Can the Great Pyramid he the pillar on the border of Egypt, referred to by the prophet Trains? How can it, seeing that there is as much difference between a pillar and the Great Pyramid as there is between a tombstone and a church? Moreover, the pyramid had been built fully seven centuries, because although the chronologists differ, there is a general opinion that the Great Pyramid was not built later than 2120 B.C. The same fact precludes all possibility of the Jews ever having had anything to do with the building of it. The pyramid had been up long before Abraham, let alone Israel, came into Egypt. We know for certain that the builder of the Great Pyramid was Cheops or Thufu because General Wyre found the cartouche containing the names of Shufu worked in red paint. Having regard to the fact that the builders were heathen idolaters, steeped in what Moses calls the abominations of the Egyptians, worshipping cats, dogs and sheep, goats and the sacred bull Aqus and in some places the Devil himself was worshipped. Is it possible that a Divine revelation of the history of the Jews could have been given to . such men centuries before the Jews existed? Is it likely that the same God who spoke centuries afterwards from the top of Sinai should have his first message to man buried inside a pyramid where no one could find it, or that no one could understand if it were found? So far as we know the interpretation of the Great Pyramid originated in tlie lively imagination of the Scotch astronomer. A e were told that thousands had been converted to Christianity by seeing how the Great Pyramid confirms the Bible. How could it confirm the Bible when it was built long before the Bible existed? How supremely independent of facts this school of interpretation is, the following will show: The passage leading down from the entrance to the Great Pyramid running nearly half-way into the' building, we were told, points straight to Bethlehem, to indicate where our Lord was to be born. Now all the pyramids, the Great one included, have' their entrance on the north side, and their sides face the cardinal points of the compass. How then can a tunnel or passage leading out to the north side of the pyramid point to Bethlehem, which lies about 300 miles to the east of the said pyramid? Again we were told that the passage in question points to the constellation Scorpion and that too has a meaning for the future. ?sow a very slight knowledge of astronomy will convince your readers that if that passage points to the Scorpion now, it must have pointed about GO degrees away from that constellation when the pyramid was built, because the slow movement we call the precession of the equinox will h.n e changed the direction of it during the four thousand years that have gone by since the pyramid was built. Last September the same lecturer told us that the midnight call would go forth on 11th November last, and Armageddon (said to mean mountain of slaughter) will take place next month. What warrant had the lecturer for fixing a date when the Bible gives none?—! am, etc., HANS C. THOMS Els.
