ADVANCE TOWARDS PEKING BY CHINESE TROOPS. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Tuesday, 8.40 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Monday. The latest Peking message indicates that, according to Chinese sources, approximately 35,000 Chinese troops arc advancing towards Peking. Fang Chen Wu’s rabble, augmented by roving bands of bandits, has occupied the town of Niluanshan, 35 miles from the city. The Japanese are preparing to advance when the ultimatum expires. Fang Chen Wu plans to attack Peking while the bandits devote their attention to Tientsin. (A previous cable stated: —The Peking Correspondent of “The Times” says that for the first time since the truce a Japanese aeroplane circled over Peking to-day, dropping showers of leaflets containing an ultimatum to General Fang Chen Wu to leave the demilitarised zone before 2Gth September, otherwise the Japanese army would launch a punitive expedition without further warning.)
