JEWELLERS ROBBED

AN ARREST MADE. GREYMOUTH, Monday. Two jewellers’ shops were robbed of rings to-day by a man believed to be unemployed, who was subsequently arrested. Asking to see engagement rings at Tennent’s he distracted Mr Tennent’s attention, removing one and saying he would bring his fiancee to see the one he liked. Mr Tennent then discovered his loss, informing the police, but meantime the man had gone to Gilbert’s shop• in the next block, adopting similar tactics and securing a £27 ring from the lady assistant, who later followed and identified him in an' hotel bar, as also did Mr Tennent. \ U A constable, arriving, saw him drop one ring on the floor and the other ring was found behind a barrel. The arrested man will appear in court to-morrow. —-(P.A.)
