AERO CLUB

ANNUAL BALL. Dancers from all parts of the Wairarapa and from further afield attended the Wairarapa and Rualiine Aero Club’s annual ball, held in the Al.unicipal Hall last evening. Very complete arrangements were made to ensure the success of the function, which was quite up to expectations. There was a large attendance, and the evening’s entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

The decorations in the dancing hall were effective and novel. Occupying a prominent place in the centrd of the hall, suspended from the ceiling, was a large dirigible, illuminated with coloured lights. Also suspended from the ceiling, between the airship and the walls, were strings of coloured streamers and bunches of balloons. Arranged around the walls were clumps of bamboo and toi grass, while over the stage, which was set out as a lounge, was the club’s monogram. The supper tables in the Social Hall were prettily decorated with daffodils, Iceland poppies, primus and red birch. The decorations were the work of Miss E. Robieson, tvho acted as joint secretary, with Mr H. A. R. Dunderdale; Mrs liaise, chairwoman of the ladies’ committee,’and Mr W. L. Free, Much credit is due to these workers for their untiring efforts. The proceedings were well managed throughout, features of. the evening being the capping dance, in which many hundreds of paper, hats were distributed to the dancers, the balloon dance, and an air raid. In the latter, the dancers were provided with squeakers to raise the alarm. Hicks’s Orchestra, Dannevirkc, played the dance music. The supper arrangements were capably attended to by. the ladies’ committee, in charge of Mrs H. Y. Halse. The members of the committee were:— Mesdames W. F. McLaren, H. ; 11. Daniell, A. H. Daniell, J. James, T. Jordan, E. F- Barton, W. L. Free, A. Donald, Misses J. Hosking and N. Oarrick.
