COSY THEATRE. BRITISH PICTURES. Two complete changes of programme are to be presented at the Cosy Theatre to-day. At the special matinee for children, there will be an attractive array of news, comedy and cartoon pictures, community singing, and Tim McCoy in “Riding Toirnado.” At the evening session a double-star British programme will be presented. One of the features is “Lord Babs,” an amusing farce comedy dealing with the adventures of an astonishingly incompetent steward aboard a liner and the other is an Edgair Wallace mystery, “Whiteface. ” Bobby Howes is the chief fun-maker in “Lord Babs.” He has the part of a veritable Handy Andy, anathema to the chief steward and to all the passengers. The attitude of the shipboard public changes amazingly when the news leaks out that Babs has inherited a peerage and twenty thousand a year. The feminine lead is played by Jean Colin and there is a strong supporting cast. “Whiteface” is the Gainsborough adaptation of Edgar Wallace’s play “Persons Unknown.” Many of the scenes take place in London’s East End and the dialogue is full of Cockney humour. The action of a thrilling play moves into many stretches of beautiful countryside between Land’s End and John o’ Groats. Gordon 'Harker plays the lead, with Norman McKinnel in support. THE REGENT. “SMILIN’ THROUGH.” With Norma Shearer as its star, and one of the most brilliant supporting casts yet assembled on the speaking screen, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s splendid production of “Smilin’ Through, ’’ will be shown again at the Regent to-night. Miss Shearer in the feminine lead follows in the footsteps of Jane Cowl, who achieved one of her greatest .successes in the record? breaking stage run of the play from which the screen production was adapted. Opposite her is Frederic March, borrowed from Paramount to play the dual role of Jeremy Wayne in the midVictorian sequences of the story, and Kenneth Wayne, his son, in the modern scenes. Leslie Howard and O. F. Heggie, who left the screen to fulfil . stage engagements during the past season, were brought back to Hollywood to add further lustre to Miss Shearer’s east. . Both these distinguished players. have appeared previously with the star. The cast also includes Ralph Forbes, Beryl Mercer, David Torrence, Margaret Seddon and Forrester Harvey,'under the direction of Sidney Franklin, who produced “Private Lives. ” “.Smilin ’ Through ’ ’ is the story of ah old man who seeks' to shed the* 1 relentless bitterness of his blighted romance on a pair of young lovers.
