PRAISE FOR AUSTRALIANS. (Received Saturday, 9.0 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. According to Sloan Morpeth, secretary of the Australian Golf Union, Australia ’s leading amateur golfers I could more than hold their own with any of the present British amateurs. •' -This statement arose out of the proposal to invite a team of British amateurs to Australia for the Melbourne centenary celebrations. He added: “I am convinced that the British golfers do not realise the high quality of amateur golf in this country.” MASTERTON CLUB. BOGEY ROSE BOWL CONTEST. A bogey rose bowl competition was played on the Lansdowne links yesterday by lady members of the Masterton Golf Club. . The results were .as follow: —Miss U. James, all square; Mrs Irwin, 1 down; Miss J. Hornabrook, 6 down; Miss Allan, 7 down; Mirs Prior, '8 down; Mrs J. Broad, 8 down.
