Scenes of death and destruction were described to-day as repaired communication lines brought the first reports from Southern Trinidad of the havoc wrought by Tuesday night’s hurricane. A howling storm lashed the coast all Tuesday night, and blew out yesterday, leaving fallen telegraph, and telephone lines, unroofed houses, and broken oilfield derricks in its wake. ■Several cases of drowning are reported, owing to the foundering of small boats. A number of people were injured when trees were uprdoted. The hurricane was accompanied by torrential rain, and caused much damage in the south-east, but reached its height in the south-west, centring around the Palorosco oil district.
