STILL NO WORK

AT DEVIL’S ELBOW CAMP. MEN’S ONLY GRIEVANCE. Work at the Devil’s Elbow camp has not yet been resumed. Tfie men who ceased work yesterday as a protest against the basis of payment, are awaiting the arrival of the Public Works Engineer-in-charge, Mr F. Hansen, of Wellington. ‘ ‘ Our only grievance is that we are not on the same footing as the men in the County Council camps,” stated a representative of the men to a “Daily Times” reporter this morning. He said the men desired- to be placed on a regular 10s a wepk basis, on which the men in the County Council camps were working. “Our last pay was so pitifully small as to be hardly enough for tobacco,” said the representative, who added that the men would not return to work until Mr Hansen’s arrival. •

It is reported that complaints have also been made by the men in the Turanganui camp regarding payments for the past two weeks.
