CHRISTMAS DAY
EMPIRE MESSAGE. KING TO BROADCAST. (Received Saturdav, 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Friday. The apparatus to be installed at Sandringham for the King’s broadcast speech on Christinas Day was despatched from the broadcasting house yesterday. Two microphones will be placed on the right and left of His Alajesty, and the speech will be picked up and broadcast over a. wider area than has ever been available before. Land lines from Sandringham will l>e connected with special lines to all transmitting stations in the- country, including the new Empire broadcasting station at Davcntrv, which will send the speech out to all parts of the Empire.—B.O.W.
Portions of the programme transmitted from the Empire station at Daventry, England, for the New Zealand and Australian zone, will be re-broadcast to-morrow evening by station 2YA. Wellington. From Davcntrv the programme will be transmitted on a wavelength of 25.5 metres, and may be received here direct by those who possess short-wave sets. Station 2\A will relay parts of the programme on its usual wave-length. The programme, with corresponding New Zealand times, will be as follows: —9.30 p.m., time signal from Big Ben, studio service conducted by the Bev. John Alayo, rector of Whitechapel Church, London; 9.55 p.m., recital of gramophone records of Christmas music; 10.45 p.m., a reading: 11.15 p.m. to 11.30 p.m., summary of the week's news.
The King’s Empire Alcssnge, given in England at 2 p.m. on Christmas Day, will also be transmitted from Davcntrv and rebroadcast by station 2A A. The time corresponds to 2 a.m. on Alondav. New Zealand time.
On Alonday evening portions of the following programme will be broadcast ]>y 2YA: 0.30 p.m., time signal from Big Ben, Empire programme for Christmas Day; 10.25 p.m., gramophone records of popular music (Gilbert, and Sullivan. Edward German, etc.): 11.15 p.m. to 11.301 p.m;, news bulletin.
