UNEMPLOYMENT
POSITION IN BRITAIN ATTACK ON PRIME MINISTER. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, Friday. Speaking in the House of ‘Commons, Mr Lloyd George attacked the Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, on the subject of unemployment apropos the Premier’s broadcast from Lossiemouth on Monday, when lie appealed to the public on general lines to help the unemployed by personal service. Mr Lloyd George began by referring to the Prime Minister’s absence from the House on Monday, when unemployment was debated. He said that if he was really ill, no one would think anything about it, but if he was well enough to travel to Lossiemouth, there to broadcast a speech on unemployment when the House was debating the subject, then it was an insult to the House.
Quoting the Premier's broadcast. Mr Lloyd George said that Air AtaeDonald went to Lossiemouth to iile his petition in bankruptcy, for lie disclosed that there were no assets worth realising. The Labour Exchanges were now fuller than ever, and the docks emptier. There were the same old slums, and more ships rotting. The Prime Alinister left all this to the' Departments with a fine gesture of charity. Major Elliott, Minister of Agriculture, said that the Prime Alinister should not be blamed because, although not in good health, he kept an engagement to broadcast made long ago. UNFAIR ATTACK. LONDON, Friday. Political writers generally regard Air Lloyd George’s attack on the Premier as unfair. The “Daily Telegraph” says there is no -excuse for such outbursts of temper. The “Express” reminds Air Lloyd George that he was himself disposed to ignore the feelings of the House in his Coalition days. Nevertheless, it advises Air AlaeDonald to pay heed to the protest.
