TWO NEW UNIONS
WAINGAWA APPLICATIONS. The labourers and slaughtermen at present employed at the Waingawa Freezing Works have formed new unions for their respective sections and applications mado for registration. One lias been officially registered while it is understood that the other will be granted official recognition within a day or two. Operations have proceeded very smoothly since the inauguration of the chain system. The Works closed this afternoon for the holidays and will reopen on Wednesday morning. GOOD WORK AT PETONE. A Masterton resident who visited the Gear Meat Company’s works at Petono yesterday states that the volunteer slaughtermen engaged there are doing excellent work. About eighty free labourers are employed, moro than three-quarters under the chain system, which appears to be operating most satisfactorily. The men, although they have been working for only a little longer than a fortnight, are putting through about 4100 sheep and lambs a day.
