Hailed as the comedy triumph of the year, “Sky Devils,” Howard Hughes’s latest film presentation, will be the- attraction at the Regent Theatre tomorrow, at matinee and evening performances. This picture, featuring Spencer Tracy, William Boyd and George Cooper in the title rolesh, and with Ann Dvorak, Hollywood’s “latest Cinderella,” as the chief feminine interest, has been acclaimed by metropolitan critics as the outstanding comedy achievement of the year. It is a rapid-lfire and thrilling tale of three aerial musketeers, and its brilliant comedy is embellished throughout with spectacular air scenes. This is Howard Hughes’s first comedy production since his inaugural laugh-hit, “Two Arabian Knights.” “Sky Devils” combines both comedy and spectacle, and besides its rare humour, contains many airthrills comparable only to “Hell’s Angels.” Reserves at Vare’s, ’phone 1337.
COSY THEATRE. “SKY BRIDE.” Half the proceeds of to-night’s entertainment. at the Cosy Theatre will be donated to the unemployed. The big attraction is “Sky Bride,” additional features being Mr C. W. Kerry at the Wurlitzer organ, vocal solos by Mrs T. Corkill and lightning sketches by Mr F. Price. “Sky Bride” is a story of. modern aviation, featuring Richard Alien, Jack Oakie, Virginia Bruce, Robert Coogan and Charles Starrett. Aden is entirely at ease in the role of a dare-devil flyer, having served as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps during the war, and later having continued his flying during the making of “Wings,” the picture that started him on his way to screen fame. Aden appears as a “flying circus” pilot who loses his nerve after killing a rival pilot in reckless stunting. In the climax of the picture drama he redeems himself by rescuing a child who has been carried aloft dining to the undercarriage of a ’plane. Aden manoeuvres his own ’plane under the other, ties the controls, climbs out on a wing, and clutches the child just as his machine slips into a dive. After all this, Aden lands safely, having regained his courage and won the admiration of his friends and the approval of the girl he loves. Seats may be reserved at Fare’s, ’phone 1333. There will be another big matinee attraction to-morrow afternoon when Tim McCoy will be starred in “Cornered.” Xews, cartoon and comedy items are also included on an excellent entertainment.
