The death is announced by cable from London of Sir John Ferguson, Unionist M.P., at the age of 72 years. Mr M. McLeod has been nominated by the Wairarapa P. and A. Society as a member of the New Zealand Meat Board. Rev. P. Wiltshire, accompanied by Mrs Wiltshire, has taken up his residence at Pongaroa, of whicn parish he has been appointed vicar. Mrs T. Burr, formerly of Masterton, is an iumate of the Pahiatua Public Hospital, where she .underwent an operation. Pier condition shows some improvement. The death occurred at the Masterton Public Hospital this morning of Mr Thomas Ryan, after a short illness. Deceased was over SO years of age and had resided in the district for a long period. In his early manhood he was engaged in marine engineering. Deceased was .of a quiet, retiring disposition, and was highly respected by Ms many friends who will regret to learn of his death. The funeral will leave St. Patrick’s Church at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow for the Masterton cemetery.

A Loudon cable states that the death has occurred of Lord Plumer, aged 75 years. He underwent an operation in February and improved until recently. His Majesty the King, in a message ; f condolence, says: ‘‘My people throughthought the Empire with me mourn the loss of one whom history will remember as a distinguished commander and great administrator.” The burial will take place in Westminster Abbey on Wednesday.
