BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY SARAZEN. (Received Saturday, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, Friday. Sarazen won the British open golf championship with a record aggregate of 283. MacDonald Smith was second with third and fourth round scores of /1 and 70. Havers was third with 68 and 76. The others include:-—O. Whitcombe (73 and 75), Alliss (78 and 7-); Padgham (74 and 70); Davies (74 and 75); Hobson (7S and 71); Mitchell (75 and 72); Cotton (77 and 72); Compston (75 and 76); R. Whiteombe (75 and 76); Armour (74 and 83); Bradbeer (79 and 79). W. Hope, with 299, is in the lead in the amateurs. 'Sarazen’s win is the ninth successive American victory. He played 108 holes at an average of four, and never exceeded five. He beats Bobby Jones’ record of 285. The newspapers consider that neither Jones nor Hagen could have exceeded Sarazen’s brilliance and consistence. He was so far'ahead of the field that the news of Havers’ record round -of 6'B in the morning came as a pleasant incentive to further efforts, but Havers dropped irrecoverable strokes eaily in the afternoon, necessitating the almost impossible task of coming home in 32.
