UNSUITABLE IMPLEMENTS.
At the present time, when there is an Empire campaign to trade within the British Commonwealth of Nations, and the cry, “Buy British goods,” is a familiar one, the statements made at a meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association this week by a member of the. General Committee as to the unsuitability of farm implements manufactured in Britain for use in New Zealand, draws attention to a matter which we have from time to time written upon. It seems to be the policy still with many English firms that the Dominions must take whatever manufactures they care to produce, ignoring altogether the fact of whether they are suitable or not for the conditions existing in the particular part of the British Empire to which they are forwarded. It is a policy of “take it or leave, it.” Of course, the Dominions de-. cide to “leave it,” and then tlnv English manufacturers raise the cry that the Dominions are goingpast their own kith and kin in the matter of trade. The day has gone when the Dominions are to be looked upon as the dumpingground of English manufacturers. There is still far too much unsuitable and inferior stuff sent to the Dominions, with the result that foreign firms are catching trade that should go to Home manufacturers.
