LOCAL ELECTIONS

YESTERDAY’S POLLING. The local body election polls in the Wairarapa were held yesterday. In e contest for a representative of tie Wairarapa South County Council on the Power Board, Mr T. V. Moore, chairman of the board, was defeated by Mi Simon Dalgleisli. Another retiring Power Board seeking re-election, Mr Duncan McLaclilan, was defeated in the Masterton County by Mr W. H. Buie v. Save in the case of representation on the Power Board, no very keen interest was shown in the elections, and the polling in most districts was small. The following are the results of the various elections: • COUNTY COUNCILS. MASTERTON. The two retiring members, Crs. J. W. Colquhoun and P. R- Welch, were returned in the Opald Riding of the Ma terton County Council The defeated candidate was Mr H. J. Raynei. T poll, which was a good one, resulted as follows: — OPAKI RIDING. Porsberg, W. A. Miller and P. W. Parry were re-elected. The defeated candidate was Mr C. B. Seymour, an ex-councillor. The poll was a heavier one than that of last year. Mr Simon Dalgleisli scored a surprise victory over Mr T. V. Moore, the retiring representative of the Wairarapa South County on the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. Mr Moore, who was chairman of the board, was defeated by , a margin of 22 votes. There was a very poor poll for the election of three representatives of the Featlierston County on the Wairarapa Hospital Board. Pour candidates contested the three vacancies, and those elected were Messrs Arch. Clark and Robert Smith, retiring members, and Mr W. B. Martin, an ex-member. The defeated candidate was Mr Mark Maxton, also a former member of the hoard. The result was as follows: FEATHERSTON COUNTY. (Three Representatives.) A. Clark 223 R. Smith 206 W. B. Martin 4^ 4 M.
