1 'fi* The Governor-General and Lady : Bledisloe left Wellington last evening by the Limited express for a Taupo and the Tekaanu district, where His Excellency proposes to spend a few days trout fishing before, the close of the season. Their Excellencies expect to arrive at Auckland on 21st May, and will go into residence there at Government. House for several weeks. Mr E. J. Rose, of Masterton, is at present seriously ill in Wellington. A Canberra cablegram states that the Federal Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) has been appointed a Pri%Councillor. Messrs. W. F. McLaren and A. McKay are to represent the Masterton A. and P. Association at the annual conference of the Royal Agricultural Society to be held on 22nd June. Votes of condolence and sympathy were passed with the relatives of the late Mr W. S. Algie, Miss E. McMaster, Mr Colin Bennett and Mr G. C. Summerell at a meeting of thejMpterton A. and P. Association afternoon. At a meeting yesterday afternoon of the Masterton A. and P. Associaton, Messrs. A. McKay and R. H. William’/ were appointed the Association’s deie : gates to the annual conference North Island A. and P. ’Associations to . be held at Palmerston North next month. There was a large attendance of mourners at the funeral of the late Mr Prank Stains, which took place .at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Services were conducted at the residence and at the graveside by the Rev. E. J. Rich. The pall-bearers were Messrs. E. and R. Jenkins, R. Hunt, J. Barnes, J. Walker and H. Marsh. A large number of beautiful floral tributes were received. ■ \ > In referring to the death of the late Air G. C. Summerell at a meeting yesterday of the Masterton A. and P. Association Air J. AI. James, the president, said that the late Air not only be missed in Masterton ’ but throughout the AVairarapa. He had . \ been treasurer and also president of the Association and was a man anyone could approach for advice. Air James moved that his services to the Association be placed on record and this was carried by members standing. There was quite a large gathering of parents at the Dalefield school to farewell Airs E. Bredin, who lias been transferred to Carterton School. After a short programme by the pupils, Jean Conwell, on behalf of the pupils of the school, presented Airs Bredin with a dainty supper set, and Patsy Bredin with a cup, saucer and plate, at the same time expressing regret of all that the school had so soon lost the services of such a kindly and capable teacher. Air AI. Parker, chairman of the School Committee, also expressed the appreciation of the community for the work Airs Bredin had done, and wished her every success in Carterton. Airs Bredin suitably responded. Bouquets of bronze,, chrysanthemums and autumn were presented to Mrs Bredin and Patsy by Pauline Bambry and dish, the-two youngest pupilsMtn the a. school. :r ’
