AMUSEMENTS

THE REGENT. “STRANGERS MAY KISS.” In “Strangers May Kiss,” which is to be shown at the Regent Theatre at matinee and evening performances for the final screenings to-day, Miss Norma Shearer is said to score her greatest triumph to date. Overseas papers refer to it as “the best piece of work she has contributed to the screen.” Robert Montgomery, the leading man, is also credited with achieving a triumph, and runs Miss Shearer very close for first honours. The way in which Norma Shearer wears her exquisite clothes is an art in itself, which will win the admiration of men as well as women. A more brilliant supporting cast would be hard to find and includes such well known favourites as Neil Hamilton, Hedda Hopper, Hale Hamilton, and Marjorie Rambeau. “Strangers May Kiss” will be preceded by the latest comedy not of Stan' Laurel and Oliver Hardy, who make merry in “Beau Hunks.” Seats may be reserved at Vare’s, ’phone *1333. The box plan for “Mother’s Millions,” commencing on Saturday, is now open at Vare’s. COSY THEATRE. “BOUGHT.” Stepliany Dale, heroine of “Bought,” the Warner Bros, modern drama starring Constance Bennett, coming to the Cosy Theatre to-night, has but one desire, and that is that she elevate her- * self to “high” society. Her mad career leads her from mannequin to social secretary and finally to engagement with a rather unstable member of the fast set. It is her father, whose identity she does not know, who finally helps to bring her back to a right sense of values —and incidentally to tho youth whom she had cast aside because of his poverty. “Bought” is an intensely human story, and the work of Constance Bennett explains why she is the highest-paid star on tho screen. Miss Bennett’s famous father, Richard Bennett, for the first time supports her. The picture is based on the novel “Jackdaws Strut” by Harriet Henry. Adaptation and dialogue are by Raymond Griffith and Charles Kenyon. The remarkable photograph is by Ray June. The cast includes Ben Lyon, Dorothy Peterson, Raymond Milland, Arthur Stuart Hull, Edward Nugent, Mae Madison, Maudie Eburne, Clara Blandic.lc and Doris Lloyd. Archie Mayo directed. Reserves at Vare’s, ’phone 1333.
