The High School v. Gladstone third grade fixture for Saturday is to be played at Gladstone, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Thus the Carterton "News” on the CartertoiUDalefield senior clash on Saturday last:—To put it mildly, there Avas a lot of unnecessary vigour in the game at times. Plain scragging is not football. It Avas fifty-fifty on both sides, but that did not make it any better. During a hard game of Rugby on the Wanganui racecourse on Saturday, a Maori Avas collared round the neck, but' broke aAvay and left his AA r ould-be tackier with a portion of a jersey in his hand. To tho astonishment of the spectators the Maori sat down -there and then and took off not only tlie remainder of the jeTsey but also his boots and stockings. He returned to the fray and during the remainder of the match xilayed prominently in a hard game, kicking the ball as often and as far as any other player on the field (states the Chronicle).
