VALEDICTORY
MR AND MRS R. S. GERRAND. •Mr and Mrs R. S. Gerrand, w^Rre leaving Masterton shortly to reside in Eltham, were, entertained last’night at k: a jvery enjoyable social gathering held in the Soldiers’ Club. Tlie_f unction, which' form of a- 500 card party, was organised by members of the Soldiers’ Club, assisted by the St. Matthew’s Church Ladies’ Guild and the Masterton Cfdquet Glub. .There was a very large and representative attendance, and the gathering was a very pleasant and successful one. After .supper, Mr J. H. Irving, a past president of the club, presented Mr Gerrand with a solid leather suitease on behalf of members of t-he club. Mrs Gerrand also received a. presentation in recognition of the assistance she had always given so freely. In making the presentations, Mr Irving 'jjk said that Mr and Mrs Gerrand had resided in Masterton for nearly a quarter of a century. During that time they had done a great deal of good work for the general advancement of tliejjgbyi and had earned the respect will of its citizens. After referring to work done by the guests of honour during the war and influenza periods, Mr Irving said that. Mr Gerrand had been associated with the Soldiers’ Club since its inception. He regretted very much that they liad assembled to bid'farewell to their friends, but wished them both the best of luck and happiness in their new home.
Mr Gerrand feelingly responded, and heartily thanked Mr Irving for his kind words and for the presentations. Mr and Mrs Gerrand were then accorded musical honours. Mrs Gerrand had previously been farewelled by the St. Matthew’s Ladies’ Guild and the Croquet Club, bodies with which she had been actively associated over a long period of years.
The 500 prizes, which were presented by Mr W. S. L. Dickson, were won by Miss West and Mr C. D. Robinson.
