T ADIES & GENTLEMEN,— At the request of a number of my friends, I have decided to contest the triennial election of the Wairarapa Power Board, my planks being Economy in Administration. I am of opinion that the expenses of the Board, especially in the Trading Department, are far too high, and could be reduced, thereby reducing the rate for current to the consumers. This is not merely a blind statement, but is my considered opinion after very carefui comparison with the overhead charges of the Wairarapa and another board of practically equal size, but with a turnover of some £ISOO less per annum. Yet this latter board can show a profit on the year’s working of approximately £9OOO, as compared with the Wairarapa Board’s approximately £4OOO. I am of opinion that more businesslike methods should be introduced into the working of the board —that is, that the Board should supply what it was created for—electric current —and leave installations and trading in electrical goods to qualified traders in each town. I consider that too much money is locked up in electrical goods and appliances, and their maintenance by an expensive staff. I favour doing away with this section of the Board’s activities and giving the money so saved back to the consumer by reducing the rate charges of power and light. I am, therefore, offering my services as your representative, and trust to be favoured with your practical support at tho poll on 11th May. Yours faithfullv, SIMON DA’IGLEISII. Longbush, 4th May, 1932.
