THEFT CHARGE
■v- against town clerk. Charged with the theft of various sums of money, the property of the Upper Hut't Borough Council, James William Harbord, aged 32, appeared before Justices' of the Peace at a sitting of the Upper Hutt S.M. Court on Monwas remanded to appear at Petop: on Friday. The amount involved is believed to be in the vicinity of £IOOO. Accused has been in the employ of the Upper Hutt Borough Council, in the position of Town Clerk, and the, alleged thefts are said to have extended over the past six months. Since last Saturday, an auditor, Mr XL H. Gillies, has been making investigations, and charge of the funds. The borough accounts were audited and passed as correct last Octobei.
