JERSEY DEMONSTRATION
On Friday last a Jersey demonstration was given by Mr Ben Robcits, ol Parkvale, to the boys of the Wairarapa High School agricultural class, on the property of the well-known breeder, Mr W. Hall, Springlea. The animal led into the ring was that famous old matron, Rewa Ambrosia, dam of Owler of Puketapu, probably the most prepotent sire of Jersey prize stock in the Dominion. The lecturer dealt with the dairy industry, economical production, overstocking, heredity, environment, production. reproduction and prepotency. He then went over the various characteristics of the cow and pointed to the outward and visible signs of (1) constitution, (2) capacity, (3) digestive power, (1) dairy temperament or nerve force, (5) circulatory system. After the demonstration, four cows were lined up for the boys to judge by points, Mr Hall and the demonstrator also doing the same. Comparisons were then made and explanations given as requested. Mr S. A. La Roche, the agricultural science master, thanked Messrs Hall and Roberts for the very profitable afternoon spent, and stressed the importance of such livestock demonstrations to the High School boys. Mr . H Jackson, on behalf of the Secondary Education Board, also expressed thanks.
