ELOPING COUPLE
CAUGHT BY PARENTS. LONDON, Sunday. Mr C. Hanbury, Conservative M.P.’ for North Dorset, and his Avife, chartered an aeroplane at Croydon on Saturday, and flew in pursuit of their son, who had gone to Gretna Green to marry Joan Eve, grand-daughter of Mr Justice Eve. The aeroplane landed at Blackpool owing to darkness setting in, and Mr and Airs Hanbury took train for Gretna Green, Avliere tlie famous blacksmith had refused to marry the couple,. as they had not resided for the requisite three Aveeks in Scotland. Mr and Airs Hanbury Avent to Glasgow. arriving bv tlie same train as the young people, and brought them back to London to-niglit. When they arrived, the station Avas besieged by rcporteis and Press photographers. Airs Hanbury later explained that the parents of both youngsters only objected to the engagement OAving to their youth. The Hanbury’s son is only l<h years old, and Joan Eve is not 17. They liad been friends since childhood, and their engagement Avould be announced Avlien the excitement of the youthful escapade had subsided.
