FOUND DEAD
“MATCH KING” SUICIDES,
LONDON, Saturday
Jvar Kreuger, the Swedish match king and financier, who had just returned from America, was found dead in a Paris fiat with a revolver by his side.
His suicide is attributed to a nervous breakdown. He lent money to the Swedish Government, for which lie obtained match monopolies which extended world-wide.
A message from Stockholm states that the Government hurriedly convened Parliament to pass a Moratorium Bill for private concerns, with special application to Kreuger. NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. (Received Monday, 9.5 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, Sunday. Kreuger’s death may be follow ed b} claims on the Kreuger undertakings, states the Prime Minister. The Inspector of the Swedish Banks, M. Ekman, points out that the moratorium bill is not due to Government fears of solvency. The banks have no cause for alarm and are opening as usual on Monday. M. Heckscher, a prominent economist, declares that the suicide does not moan the writing of the obituary of the Kreuger concerns, ■ DEALT IN MILLIONS. (Received Monday, 9.5 aim.) LONDON, Sunday. Kreuger controlled four-fifths of the world’s match supply. Ho habitually dealt with millions, the Swedish Match Company’s capital alone being £20,000,000.
