COMMUNITY SING

ON THURSDAY NEXT. An enjoyable time is assured- at #■ community sing and presentation of essay prizes arranged by the .Empire Shopping Week Committee take place in the Municipal Hall on Thursday next. Song sheets will be distributed free and no charge will be made for admission, but a collection will be taken up in aid of the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund. Next Thursday’s gathering will be final so far as the Empire Shopping Week Committee is concerned, but a project is afoot to hold community sings on alternate Thursdays at which voluntary coll coitions would lie taken up on behalf of tlie unemployed. Offers of assistance have been made by musical societies and other organisations. Tlie idea is to provide enjoyable evenings for everybody and the promoters suggest that the collection should not keep anyone away.

Messrs. T. Vaughan, Wil!ntß?Bav3es, J, Mulvey, Bert Vernier, B. .T. Young and other favourite artists will assist. Song sheets will be distributed gratis. During the evening the Mayor T. Jordan) will present the tro lAv Avon by the AvindoAV dressers in the'w-' cent Shopping Week competitions,' and also the prizes won by pupils of the Opaki, Te Ore Ore, -Masterton West, Masterton Central and Solway in the Empire Essay Competition. The Wairarapa Pipe Band will play in Queen Street and outside the hall prior to the sing. A committee is arranging to carry on these sing-songs every alternate Aveek. There Avill be no charge for admission.
