OBITUARY

MRS ELLEN JUDD. The death occurred early on Sunday morning, at the residence of her daughter, Mis \V\ R. Nieol, 123 Dixon Street, Masterton, of Mrs Ellen Judd, relict of the late Mr William Judd, itie late Mrs Judd was 7(5 years of age, and was the daughter of the late Mr „ ml .virs James nalph, early residents of Masterton. Born at Trew Breage, Cornwall, England, the lute Mrs Judd, at the age of rli years, came out to Australia, wheiu Viie was married, coming to New Zealand eight years later. She had resided in New Zealand for 52 years, 35 years in Masterton and ten at Waimangaroe, near Westport, besides short periods at Wellington, Woodville and Ballance. The late Mrs Judd was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. She cook an active part- in all social activities, as well as the devotional side of church work. For many years she was a Sunday school teacher and also a choir member, possessing a splendid soprano voice which was heard to advantage in the service of her church and town. Mrs Judd was also a foundation member of the Loyal Ladies’ Orange Lodge, No. 24. She was held m ve’T high esteem for her many good qualities, and was a successful business woman, being for many years proprietress of the Prince of Wales Private Hotel, Masterton. The late Mrs Judd’s husband predeceased her 13 years ago. She is survived by one son, Mr W. H. Judd, Pownall Street; three daughters, Mrs W. R. Nieol, Dixon Street; Mrs ’N. L. Ilallam, Sydney; and Miss Vera B. Judd, Masterton; two brothers, Mr V. A. Ralph, South Island, and Mr S. D. Ralph, Perry Street, Masterton; am one sister, Mrs D. Baillie, Wellington. There aro ten grandchildren and hve great-grandchildren. The sympathy ot the community will be extended to the relatives in their sad bereavement. The funeral will leave the residence of her daughter, Mrs W. R. Nieol, Dixon Street, at 2.30 pan. to-morrow, for the Masterton Cemetery. Members ot the L.L.O.L. 24 and L.O.L. 59 are requested to attend the funeral.
