GIRL GUIDES

CAMP AT PAEKAKARIKI. A number of Masterton Gii‘l Guides are attending tho Girl Guides ’ camp at Paekakariki. Miss Joyce Dutliie, of Heretaunga, who recently returned from England where she gained her Blue Cord diploma, is in charge. The Masterton Guiders, Miss Hill, Miss Raetliffe and Miss Miller are with the Masterton party in camp, while Miss Wooldridge, of Paekakariki, is also lending assistance in the management.

Mrs. Martin Tweed, the Provincial Commissioner, hoped to visit the camp one day during this week. A Masterton visitor during the past week-end ■was Miss Stewart, who on her return said that tho girls were having a most enjoyable time. Everyone entered with enthusiasm into the various duties connected with camp life. At 6.45 a.m. the cooks commence preparing breakfast, while all other guides rise a quarter of an hour later. The ceremony of saluting the flag is held each morning at 7.30 and is followed by breakfast. Among the many enjoyable features of tho life of the camp swimming and tramping are particularly popular. At the week-end tramp over some hilly country to the bush, a “treasure hunt” took place. The “treasure” was the luncheon which had been taken on in advance by members of the party who laid a trail. It was eventually tracked down and full justice done to it. At 7.30 o’clock a “camp-fire” gathering is held each evening and the guides have listened with great interest to Miss Duthio telling of her experiences in England. By S p.m. all are snug in bed.

The guides have now been in camp a week, and break-up on Thursday of this week.
