GRAFT
CONDITIONS IN NEW YORK INDICTMENT OF TAMMANY. Press Association Electric Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, Monday. Mr Samuel Seabury, leader during tho past six months of a series of investigations into the conditions of city government, has presented a summary of his findings and allegations. Mr Seabury offers in his summary an outspoken and lengthy indictment of Tammany Hall, the chief political organisation of the city. Analysing tho fortunes made by Tammany leaders and the misgovernment which has made their great bank accounts possible, Mr Seabury asserts: “It is perfectly apparent what those men did is part of the system upon which Tammany exists and expands, and that Tammany approves, protects and wishes to perpetuate this sordid traffic in political influence. “The financial position in which New York now finds itself is due. to the waste, graft and corruption with which the city is infested. “The evidence with respect to the administration of the unemployment relief funds establishes a shocking abuse of a sacred trust, and shows that the money appropriated to relieve privation has been used to take c-are of faithful Democrats.”
