"RED" ACTIVITY

IN SALVADOR. WASHINGTON, Saturday. A Communist revolutionary movement of serious proportions in Salvador led to-day to the despatch of British, Canadian and American vessels for the protection of the lives of foreign residents.

The United States Charge d’Affaires (Mr. McCaffcrty) informed the State Department that the Italian ConsulGeneral had appealed for protection for his nationals and the British Charge d’Affaires had concurred in the view that the despatch of naval vessels to the scene might prevent “much bloodshed.” The United States ordered a' cruiser and two destroyers to Acajugia or an adjacent port. The British Embassy aiid Canadian Legation informed the State Department that a British cruiser was proceeding to El Salvador and that two Canadian destroyers, which were near there, had put into Aeajugia. Fighting is reported in the cities of Santa Tecla and Sonsonati, where the railway is reported to have been torn up by the Communists.
