DANNEVIRKE SHOW

Though the date (January 26th) for the closing of entries for the Dannevirlte A. and P. Show is still some distance away, those who have intentions of exhibiting should lose no time in forwarding their entries to the secretary at Dannevirke, or to Mr G. Reg. Cook, of Waipukurau. This year the Dannevirke and Waipukurau Societies are co-operating, as the latter is not holding a show of its own, and, on that account the Dannevirke fixture, vith the added support of Central Hawke’s Bay, is expected to be more representative than ever. Apart from the competitions, stock and other sections, there is wide scope for the housewife and the needlewoman to give evidence of their skill, while a miscellaneous section (including art) and children’s classes, offer plenty of opportunity in the matter of competition. In the home industrious section, entries do not close until the morning of the first day, and those competing from a distance should send their exhibits, together with the entry fee, to the secretarv, who will see that they are duly entered and submitted to judgment. In conjunction with the show, the Dannevirke Kennel Club is holding its annual exhibition, and the schedule therefore is one of the most attractive yet to be submitted to breeders and owners. Many valuable prizes have been allotted, and any person interested may obtain a schedule on application. The Railway Department have consented to carry up to 12 dogs on Sunday night’s Limited from Auckland. This will be a help to fanciers from the north, because it will enable them to arrive in Dannevirke on Monday afternoon, otherwise the dogs would not reach Dannevirke till the morning of the opening of the show. ■Prospects for the A. and P. Show this year have been vastly improved by recent beneficial rains, and it is confidently expected that the exhibition on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9th and 10th, will be one of. the best" yet held under the association’s auspices, while evening entertainment on the ground should prove popular with residents and visitors.
