this morning was the meeting of Dymond and Barkman in the fourth round of the Men’s Championship singles. Both players were in good form and edch favoured base-line play. The first set went to 11/9 in the Christchurch player’s favour, while the second set was also won by Dymond. The semi-final match for the Wilding Shield was concluded at the Stanley Street Courts to-day, Canterbury defeating Auckland, holders of the trophy, by a margin of two sets. Each team won six matches, four singles and two doubles. The contest, therefore, was particularly keen, and was played in a fine sporting spirit throughout.. Canterbury will now meet Wellington in the final on the same courts to-day. Outstanding features of the day’s play -were the defeat of Bartleet by Barnett, who had accounted for Stedman, New Zealand champion, the previous day, and a brilliant display given by Angas and Barnett in defeating Auckland’s leading pair, Stedman and Sturt.
