Good fields are sure to be the order at this popular meeting and the racing should be of a high order. A convenient train service will be run from Masterton, arriving at the course in time for the first race, which starts at noon.

TURF NOTES.

The Auckland Racing Club has drawn up programmes for its autumn and winter meetings, and the stakes generally have been reduced from last year, with the exception of classic races at the autumn meeting. The stake money for the autumn meeting will amount to £7350, compared with £9150 last year, and £8275 for the winter meeting, as against £II,OOO last year.

One of the most enthusiastic admirers of Phar Lap is Dr. Stewart McKay, of Sydney, who is widely acknowledged to be one of the foremost authorities on everything appertaining to the thoroughbred family and of racing in the southern hemisphere. He regards Phar Lap’s prospects in the big. handicap to be run in Mexico next March in a most optimistic spirit. In a recent interview with a representative of the Sydney “Referee,’’ he stated that he considered Phar Lap was “just the horse for the job.’’
