COUNTRY RELIEF WORK
INSUFFICIENT APPLICANTS. DUNEDIN, Monday. Apparently many single men are still not anxious for country work. It was recently decided that single men applying for relief work should be offered work at the Deep Stream or Lindis Pass camps only. During the last month eighty-nine single men, specially offered work at cither of these camps, refused to accept it. At present thero are vacancies at Deep Stream for twenty single men and at Lindis Pass for fourteen, but there are insufficient applicants for the positions, notwithstanding that notices have been exhibited advising all eligible single men that the vacancies exist. —(P.A.)
