MAURICEVILLE COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held on Saturday, Councillor R. Judd (chairman) presiding. There were also present: —Councillors W. A. Miller, D. Bennett, F. W. Parry, A. Forsberg and J. 11. MacDonald.

The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £258 5s lOd and accounts were passed for payment amounting to £730 4s 4d.

Plans for two new bridges known Us the Mangamahoe Station Bridge and McKenzie’s Bridge, were submitted by Mr Falkner and it was decided to submit them for the approval of the district engineer. It was decided to request several farmers to submit proposals more in detail, at next meeting of the council, for proposed employment of relief workers on farms.

The Commissioner of Transport requested information as to any special restrictions of weight and speed on motor traffic in the county, which the Clerk reported had been supplied. The Main Highways Board notified

that tho concurrence of the hoard must be obtained before tenders were accepted for contracts carrying subsidy. The Unemployment Board intimated

that relief workers were to be required

to cultivate their own gardens in order to help themselves in their own time, as an essential to employment on relief works. It was resolved that the ten per cent, penalty be added to all general rates
