UNEMPLOYED BOYS

ARRIVAL AT PENROSE. OFFICIAL OPENING NEXT WEEK. This morning sixty-five unemployed boys from Wellington, comprising the main party of boys for the agricultural training and holiday camp at Penrose, arrived at their destination. They travelled by the north-bound mail train and disembarked at Waingawa, from whence they at once proceeded to Penrose. An advance party, which arrived on Saturday, had everything in readiness for the arrival of the main party to-day. The camp is being held under the auspices "of the Wellington Rotary Club and Y.M.C.A., and Mr L. Greenberg, Y.M.C.A. secretary, will be in charge of the boys during their month’s stay in camp. The boys entered camp to-day under ideal weather conditions, and they are all looking forward to their stay in the country. The boys are to devote a certain part of each day to instruction in agricultural subjects, and also physical exercise. The afternoons will be comparatively free, and in the evening’s entertainment will be provided. About 140 boys applied to go to camp, but only those lads were accepted who expressed a definite desire to follow a career on the land. All the boys going to Penrose are hopeful of obtaining employment on farms at the termination of their stay in camp, and while it is in progress efforts will be made to secure them suitable positions. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, will officially open the camp on Wednesday. January 6tli.
